Downtown Tampa's Channel district has a new dining option.

District Tavern opens at 7 p.m. Friday in SkyHouse Channelside, the newly built apartment tower on North 12th Street, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. The space has been under construction since July; EWI Construction of Tampa is the contractor on the project.

It features a New American menu, with appetizers like the tavern shooters — roasted tomato bisque accompanied by smoked gouda, brie, pancetta, caramelized onion and arugula on a toasted baguette — and fried grouper cheek sliders with bacon-jalapeno tartar sauce.

Burgers, wraps, sandwiches and flatbreads dominate the menu, and the restaurant will also serve craft beer and cocktails.

After years of residential development, the Channel district is beginning to see an influx of restaurants and retailers. District Tavern is across North 12th Street from where Duckweed Urban Grocery is building out a storefront; Fabrica Woodfired Pizza opened in the Channel district in late summer.
